Three Muses publishes literary fiction—works in translation, short story collections, and novels. We are looking for strong voices and diverse themes, works that promote reflection, add beauty to our existence, expand our horizons, and relate to real lives in cultures both familiar and unfamiliar. Under those parameters, Three Muses also publishes small-format art books, creative nonfiction, and memoir.

Submission Guidelines
Three Muses Press accepts submissions from published or unpublished writers and artists, and we support emerging authors. A literary agent is not required. No simultaneous submissions, please.
Three Muses does accept previously published images of artwork, but we require that you comply with contractual obligations, own the copyright to the works, and are free to publish them at will. We prefer electronic submissions in the form of JPEG files.
Send a one-page query letter via e-mail or standard mail. Incude the first thirty to forty pages of your manuscript for fiction. Please provide a book proposal with sample chapters when submitting nonfiction art books, creative nonfiction, or memoir. If we like what we see, we will request a computer-generated hard copy of the manuscript for review and an electronic version for editing purposes.
Include a self-addressed, stamped postcard if you would like confirmation that your manuscript has been received. Also include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like your materials returned.
Query letters or nonfiction book proposals may be submitted in a Word attachment via e-mail or standard mail.
If you prefer to submit in printed form or if we request a printed copy of your full-length work, please send a computer-generated hard copy on letter-sized white paper having one-inch margins all around. Twelve-point Times New Roman is easy to read, and numbered pages are recommended.
At the top of the first page, please include a header having author’s name, address, phone, e-mail, manuscript title, and word count. For following pages, title and author’s name will suffice.
Three Muses does not publish children’s books, self-help nonfiction, or biographies. Poetry will be considered only in context with art-based book projects. Genre fiction such as mystery, western, romance, science fiction, and fantasy would find happier homes with publishers having corresponding imprints.
Our goal is to review solicited manuscripts within one month. Unsolicited manuscripts can take up to three months. We have a small staff of dedicated professionals who prefer to give each submission the careful review it deserves. We thank you for your patience.
